Don’t let your creativity get stale

Today I was thinking about something one of my old college professors stressed to us almost every class.  One thing that is absolutely necessary when you are a creative professional is to continually find inspiration from others around you.  Whether it’s another designer’s work, a tv commercial, or even a magazine ad – ideas and new inspiration is everywhere.  Sometimes it comes from listening to a song on the radio, or even an old one you downloaded.  What we all need to try and do is continually feed our minds with inspiring things, so that our own creativity doesn’t get stale.

Sometimes when I find I’m getting into a rutt I will even go to the bookstore or library, and browse through the books on art or graphic design.  Whatever you do, make sure you get outside of your own mind once in a while, and see what other designers or photographers are doing.  Sad to say, if you are just a one trick pony designer, just hope you have a steady job that doesn’t require anything that spectacular.  I’ve worked in places with designers like that, and in a few years they are the ones that end up getting laid off, while the more talented designers get kept on the payroll.
