So a friend of mine from the UK (Bob Davies of PicWorkflow) was shopping in a local bookstore. He was waiting in line near the check out register, and suddenly glanced over at this end cap display of ridiculousness. After bursting out in laughter, and getting a bunch of crazy stares from everyone else in the store, he had to explain to the strangers around him, “I know that guy on the box there.” Yet another funny example of how you just never know where, when, or how certain stock photos might get used, and might turn up. It seems that this man flu gag gift set has been sold out everywhere online, including amazon UK. If I could get my hands on one, I probably would. Thanks again to Bob for finding this; more importantly, snapping a camera phone pic and sending it to me

Yes, I do think momma would be proud. At least they didn’t use the nose picker stock photo of me, this time. I can add yet another feature to my jack of all trades resume: “Todd, Professional Gag Gift Model.”

Cookie Monster Garbage Can

Someone was either really clever, or really bored. They turned a regular blue public city waste receptacle into our favorite blue cookie eating monster from Sesame Street! Either way, a very creative use of converting something normal or everyday into something funny.

Cool ASCII Unicode Twitter Art Text

Have you ever noticed the cool unicode text artwork floating around twitter once in a while? Social networking services like myspace, twitter, and facebook have kept this artform alive, yet again. When you see them, they definitely do stand out like a sore thumb – getting your tweets noticed more than with regular tweets. I looked online but couldn’t many places that had them all in one spot, so I decided to copy and paste a bunch into a collection. Some of the symbols used in creating these aren’t normal text characters that are easy to find with your keyboard alone, yet these artists are able to utilize them and turn them from nothing into something great.

For some reason this blog is not set up to show unicode characters, so I’ve attached them in an .rtf document that you can open in any text editor or word processor. Click on the images below to download them all, and then you can copy/paste to retweet. Mac vs PC According to Varun Kannan

This little Indian kid named Varun on youtube is a pretty smart guy. I like this kid’s way of reasoning when it comes to mac vs pc. I love macs, but I’m not going to lie… I think they’re definitely way overpriced for what you get. I’m not taking sides, as I’ve worked with both for years. I actually just ordered a brand new desktop pc with an i7. It has more memory in the video card alone than my current (7 year old) computer has snapped into it’s motherboard DIMMs. Savings? $1000-1500 over the new incredible iMac 27″. That’s a lot of cheddar that can get redirected into new photo gear for me. Anyway, I’ll be sure to post a full review of my new setup once it arrives.

Amazingly, a lot of graphic design jobs you might find won’t always have you on a mac. Make sure you know how to use both – otherwise you’re going to have to educate yourself pretty quick once you land that first design gig straight out of college. That means knowing what the heck you’re doing in Windows XP and the all new Windows 7, as well as knowing OSX. Thankfully the Adobe programs are pretty much identical whether you’re on a mac or a pc, with the exception of the alt/option key on your keyboard (it’s not rocket science).

Graphic Design Clients – Proofing Can Stink

Sometimes this is what being a graphic designer really feels like…proofing changes with clients can be funny, but not when you’re the designer jumping through all the ridiculous hoops This is a funny parody on how ridiculous it can sometimes get when dealing with moron clients and making a million and one revisions. Charging an hourly rate for revisions past a certain point will definitely help to avoid this type of dragged out ridiculousness.
