Change / Restore Your Firefox Address Bar Search Engine
Today I went to use the address bar to search for something, and some stupid MyPoints search results showed up. That’s just wacked, because I wanted it to use google like it always has. Here’s how I fixed it:
Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press Enter
Type keyword in Filter textbox and you will see only the preference keyword.URL
Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to: http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
Done. Hope that helps!
If you want to change the default search engine in the search bar, at the upper right, just do this:
- In your address bar, type in: about:config
- Inside the filter search box, type in: browser.search.defaultenginename
- Double click that entry and then type in the name of the search engine you wish to have as thedefault search engine. It must be one that you already have installed and also make sure you type in the name correctly. Now if you type in Google - restart Firefox, and when your browser comes back up you will have Google as your default search engine.
